HI, jessica im new to this community for that matter i have never posted on a forum. i signed the papers for a deed in lieu in oct 2007 with gmac. After they agreed they say they sold the loan. the new company did follow through with the DIL but they took 5mo and reported me late for that time period. i was only 30 days late when i signed the papers and moved out as i was instructed. my big concern now is they are still reporting to the CA a balance of the origanal loan. Can they do that even when the paper work says the loan is closed and i am not responsible after it is recorded in our county? I got a copy from the county that shows it was recorded and paid.

Hope you understand what im asking and thank you so much for helping all of us.

Hi ff, If the deed in lieu of foreclosure is over and the property has been sold off, then no one can report the late payments to the credit bureaus. However, the deed in lieu of foreclosure will be reported to your credit report. You should contact the credit bureaus and dispute the status of that account.
