Will the retirement benefits end after adding a younger person to the title?
My mother's neighbors they are both retired and sick. The man has Alzheimer and Thyroid cancer in his and the wife has some symptoms. She has no one in this country, he has all his family here but no one wants to take care of them. I am the one that takes care of them.
I only want to be added to the title I don’t want them to transfer the house completely to me. I know that the taxes are less because of their age by adding me will that end. When they pass on can the family members come requesting possession afterwards? Do I need proof I’m the only one by their side?
Thank you

Hi Mari,
welcome to the forums.
The retirement benefits of the neighbors will not be available to a new person on the title. This is because retirement planning has got nothing to do with who's on the title. But it's good to know that you've decided to take care of them.
If you add yourself as a co-owner of the property, then the family members can obviously come after for the possession of the interest in property that currently belongs to the neighbor and his wife. As proof of whether you are the co-owner, the deed which you use to add yourself to the title can serve it's purpose.

ana, you're asking for trouble. should these people add you to the title to their home without conferring with family, it is likely that someone will point out that you're dealing with challenged people (alzheimer's, etc.).
your heart may be in the right place, but it's your head that counts in a circumstance like this.
