angela, obtaining a loan for the purchase of land only is going to be a chore. very few lenders are willing to undertake the risk of financing land purchases in this economy. you'll need plenty of patience while you shop.
i am a bit alarmed in that i have to agree with manoj that the location of your desired purchase will make it easier for anyone who has some of that knowledge to direct you.
