we were going to refinance our home loan. the broker sent out an appraiser, and said they were going to pay for it. when we went to closing to sign the papers, the loan was not structured as a cash out (which is what they had agreed upon doing). so we did not sign the papers. when we asked for a copy of the appraisal they said that we can not have it. are we legally able to get a copy? they said that because we didnt pay for it that we are not allowed to have it. what's up with that?????
Hi lvasil!
Welcome to forums!
You have the rights to get the copy of appraisal from your lender. It is quite surprising that they are not giving you the docs. However, if you want to get a copy of the appraisal, you can contact an independent appraiser and get a fresh appraisal done.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

when you pay for an appraisal report, you have the right to obtain a copy of that report. if you didn't pay for it, i believe that the lender is correct, and that you'll not get a copy. if you think you've truly been wronged here, you might want to contact your state banking department for clarification, and for further action, if warranted.
