i filed bankruptcy last year. i am in the process of re-modifying my 1st mortgage. what happens to my second mortgage? i contacted them months ago but they acted like my account was closed, end of story.
Hi jwilson!
Welcome to forums!
As far as I can understand, your second mortgage has been discharged in your bankruptcy filing and you are not liable to pay it any longer. You can check out your bankruptcy discharge papers or contact your bankruptcy attorney for further details.
Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

Hi Sussane - thank you for your response. I contacted my lawyer and she said that I should do a title search to see if the bank has written off claims to my house. Does this sound right? Otherwise, if I sell my home I may not have a clear title. How much does a title search cost and can I request one myself? Thank you.
Hi jwilson,
A title search will help you in knowing whether or not their is a lien on your property. Thus, if there is a mortgage on the property, you'll be able to come to know about it from the title search. It would depend upon the title search company as to how much they would charge. As far as I know, you would be able to request for a title search.
Thanks
