Account included in bankruptcy

Posted on: 24th Jul, 2012 02:12 am
Hi there… I had a utility company bill in my name. I moved and my former roommate took over the bill. Well he defaulted. When I went to file for bankruptcy, it was listed on my credit report and my attorney said they will just list in bankruptcy. Since then, I have attempted to dispute this account as belonging to me. When I took my name off the account, it was a zero balance. Experian verified the debt as mine. Can I do anything since I included this account in my bankruptcy?
If the debt was included in your bankruptcy filing, then it will remain in your credit report but the status of the account should be updated as "included and discharged in bankruptcy filing".

Welcome crayoline,

You can contact your bankruptcy attorney and check out what steps you need to take in order to update the status of the account.
