CHAPTER 7

Posted on: 24th Jan, 2009 03:49 pm
My Fiance is about to purchase a home, we were both going to purchase this home together but I am faced with having to file Chapter 7 BK. He is currently in going into Escrow and I am just getting the BK process going. I am not on the house loan but will be living, putting money down for the house and paying part of the mortgage as well. Would it not be a good idea for me to be on the deed of the house? How could I have some ownership without risking my BK affecting the equity or lien on this new home.

J
Hi Jiana,

As you are planning to file a bankruptcy, it would not be a good option to add your name to the property deed. You can add your name to the property deed later on when your bankruptcy has been discharged. But before adding your name to the property deed, even after the discharge, I would suggest you to take the advice of an attorney.

Thanks
