i had windows installed in my house about a month ago and received a letter last week notifying me that the contractor that installed the windows has now declared chapter 7 bankruptcy. today, i missed receiving a certified letter from the window company the contractor got the windows from. first question is can i be sued by the window company if the contractor never paid them for the windows even though i paid the contractor in full? second question, should i speak to a lawyer before picking up the certified mail?
Hi rutro,
If you hadn't signed any contract with the window company, then they won't be able to sue you for the non-payment of the dues. The window company must have signed an agreement with the contractor and will sue him for the dues.

Hi rutro9
If you have purchased the material from the window company (if the receipt does have names of both parties including you and windows company) then surely they can sue you for non-payment of materials.
But if window's company does no have any type of written proof that you have purchased a material from them, then you won't be liable for their losses.
