i'm filing bankruptcy in july 2010. i am curious to know if i should also stop paying my mortgage. i am approximatey $10k upside down on it. i am single but will be getting married this fall. my fiance's name is not involved tied to any of my credit.
Welcome eli,
It is your discretion whether or not you'll stop paying the mortgage dues. If you include your mortgage in your bankruptcy filing, then it will get discharged. However, you should note that while you default your mortgage payments, it will have a negative effect on your credit report and may lower your score.
