FHA after ch7 w/mortgage

Posted on: 29th Mar, 2010 02:07 pm
When could we qualify for FHA mortgage post ch 7? We filed Jun 2008, discharged Oct 2008. We declared our mortgage in ch 7. (advised lender day of court date Aug 2008 abandoning house) Lender unable to sell it until May 2009. When can we qualify? 2 years after Oct 2008, our discharge date? OR 3 years after the lender was able to sell off the house, May 2009? Please don't answer, 2 yrs ch 7, 3 yrs foreclosure because I don't know if its really considered a foreclosure since it was included in ch 7. The difference between Oct 2010 and May 2012 is huge, so I need to know. Can't tell you how many people have asked basically the same question and not one definitive answer. Hope you can help.
Hi RonAndKristen!

Welcome to forums!

As far as I know, you would be able to qualify for a FHA loan after 2 years of your Chapter 7 discharge. However, for further advice on this issue, I would suggest you to contact your bankruptcy attorney and take his opinion in this regard.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.
