I filed for bankruptcy in 2006 and my mortgage was discharged at that time. I have continued to pay my mortgage these past 5 years. The mortgage was never re-affirmed and my payments do not show on my credit report. I do not have a foreclosure on my credit (yet). I now need to move to Las Vegas. Can I apply for a new mortgage to buy a house in Las Vegas and then walk away from my current one? I have already paid over $100,000 for this (manufactured) house, but it is a financial bottomless pit and will never be worth anything. I currently reside in AZ. If I fill out an application and say I currently own this home, how will that affect my application? Will a new mortgage company accept the fact that I can/want to walk away from this house?
Hi bruski,
As the foreclosure is still not mentioned in your credit report, you can apply for a new mortgage in Las Vegas and try to buy a property. However, the lender may want to clarify the status of that property. If the property is free and clear, then it won't affect your application but as it will be up for sale, the lender may be reluctant to give you a new loan.
Thanks
