How long after a person files chap. 7 can they obtain a mortgage loan?
For chapter 7, its best to wait till 2 years after your discharge and then go for a mortgage. It will help you get reasonable offers.

You can be approved after a year under extreme circumstances. You have to be able to show the situation was beyond your control and not likely to happen again. Such cases are taken on an exception basis.

Conforming loans are 2 years from filing and FHA is 2 years from discharge.
