Bankruptcy and loan

Posted on: 04th Mar, 2013 01:19 am
Hello everyone! My husband became bankrupt ten years ago. We now plan to purchase a new property and take out a mortgage. Will the bankruptcy come up on mortgage application?
Hi Welham,

As 10 years have passed since your husband filed bankruptcy, it must have been removed from his credit report now. In such a situation, it won't come up when your mortgage lender does a credit check.

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Welham!

Welcome to the forums!

You should check out your credit report from all the three credit bureaus and find out whether or not the bankruptcy filing is still mentioned on it. If bankruptcy is not mentioned on it, then lender may not find it when he checks your credit. However, to be on the safe side, you can let the lender know that your husband filed bankruptcy 10 years ago.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

10 years is long time and it wouldn't come up except if you want to be open and let your lender know anyway.Hope during the 10 year period you worked on your credit.

All the best.
