Hello, We have been discharged from bankrupcy since march 2009. How long will our name be on our property taxes which means they keep charging us each year. We moved out of the home way before our discharged date but our name has not been removed. Thank you
you need to contact property tax office. once discharged, you should not be charged for property tax.
are you saying that you no longer own this property? if you do, you're still going to be liable for taxes; moving out doesn't constitute a change of ownership.
Hi sturat,
Bankruptcy discharges you from your debts; it does not discharge you from your tax obligations. If you have been discharged through bankruptcy and have stopped making payments towards the loan, your house will be foreclosed and sold off. It seems your lender has not foreclosed on your house yet, which is why the title is still in your name. As long as you are on the title to the property, you will be responsible for the property taxes.

Hi sturat,
jenkin is right. as long as your name is on deed, you need to pay taxes.
