I filed Chapter 7 BK on October 15, 2005. I did not sign a reaffirmation agreement on my mortgage at that time. I have NEVER paid late on my mortgage, but Chase is reporting to the credit reporting bureaus that I have a negative account with them. I was told by an attorney that I could sign a post-bankruptcy reaffirmation agreemnt, but Chase says I have to re-open the BK. It doesn't seem that re-opening the BK is practical - any advice?
Hi dfrei!
You are not bound to sign a reaffirmation agreement when you file bankruptcy. Re-opening a bankruptcy is not a very good idea in my opinion. If an attorney had told you about the post-bankruptcy debt reaffirmation agreement, then it has to be correct. You can consult the same attorney and ask him to speak to Chase regarding this.
Feel free to ask if you have further queries.

A lawyer can't be wrong in my opinion. You can ask him to speak to your lender.
