Hello everyone… First let me acknowledge that this is one of the best forums that I've come across!!! Thanks to all involved in this forums for their efforts…
I have a query and hope someone can help me. I'm associated with the armed forces. Due to a financial hardship and medical emergency that I faced recently, I had to file bankruptcy. I want to know whether or not this will affect my security clearance status? Also, is it mandatory to inform this bankruptcy filing to my immediate seniors?

Hi J.N. Gomes,
It's really good to note that you liked the MortgageFit Forums so much! :-)
You have stated that you had financial problems and medical emergency. If the reasons are genuine, then you can definitely file bankruptcy in order to get rid of your unmanageable debts. As far as I know, servicemen can still receive promotion even though they had filed bankruptcy. You can inform your seniors about your bankruptcy filing who will look into your case while taking any major decision.
Thanks

Boy, you may want to check into that, but my guess is that it could impact your security clearance. I had a friend who had a car repossessed, this was like 20 years ago, but it impacted her security clearance. In her case it was due to the fact that she did not disclose it (it happened prior to her going into the service). Either way, it likely is best to be upfront about it with the military.
