I had a bankruptcy quite a few years ago. I thought they were taking out of my check for a student loan. Come to find out they never received a dime. They waited for 6 years before they started coming after me for the money. I have tried talking to the loan people but, they don't want to hear it. They just want the money. Now, they have tacked on so much interest I can't afford to pay them. And you can't go after the lawyer, he acted like it was our fault. But, my credit is at fault not his.
Also, can they come after my social security when I retire.
Thanks again for any help.

Hi tacochichi,
As far as I know, student loans cannot be discharged by filing bankruptcy. You would be liable to pay off the student loans. Your creditor will not be able to come after your social security income in order to recover the dues. However, your creditor can garnish your savings account if you do not pay off the dues. I would suggest you to try again and negotiate with your lender so that you can get an easy payment plan to pay off the dues.
Thanks

indeed...discuss what you can do and what you would like to do with your lender to work out a solution. you'll need to repay the loan and that's the bottom line.
they cannot take your social security.
