Paying a Credit Card Charge when a business goes bankrupt

i paid for a service using my visa card and have been making payments to pay-off this debt. i recieved a notice that the company is now filing for chapter 7 bankruptcy. do i have to keep paying this visa bill?

I suppose you should pay the Visa bill; better talk to the company officials regarding the payment.

Hi Linding,

Even if the VISA Card Company has filed bankruptcy, you need to pay off your debt. When a creditor gets bankrupt, some other company will buy it's assets in case the former quits all its operations. You will then owe the debt to the company which bought the assets.

However, if the VISA card company is in bankruptcy but are still operating, then you owe the debt to the original company or to whoever it may sell off your debt.
