I went through a bankruptcy recently. How long do I have to wait to get a mortgage?

Hi Guest,

You cannot get a mortgage immediately after bankruptcy filing. You need to wait for 3-4 years in order to qualify for a conventional loan after bankruptcy discharge.

FHA allow a mortgage 2 years post discharge - if you had extenuating circumstances this can be cut down to 1 year but requires you take a class prior to applying - If you want to go Conventional it will take longer
