Workplace costs: How to trim it to make most of the paycheck

Workplace-costs

The first thing that comes to our mind when we think of our job is money. We all work to earn money and have a good living. But work can itself be costlier. While you work, you will have to incur expenses for the transportation, work attire, eating out, etc. This may eat away a lump sum part of you hard-earned paycheck.

Here are few tips which will help you to decrease your work expenses thereby helping you to save more money:

Attire: Your first job may lead you to work on your wardrobe. This can dig a hole in your pocket. In order to lower the costs, you can initially invest in a few staple pieces, like suits and shoes. It should also be noted that expensive items are actually good investments as they will last longer. Once you have a good suit and pair of shoes in your wardrobe, you can then invest in buying some inexpensive shirts, sweaters, ties, etc. There are various online shopping websites which will give you ample discounts on purchases. You can try those to buy your stuff. This will help you save quite a big amount.

Lunch: You cannot avoid lunch and famish yourself while you’re at work. But it should be noted that going out for lunch on a daily basis can burn your pockets. So, it’s better to skip out on restaurants and bring your lunch from home. You can re-purpose the leftovers of the previous night and prepare a delicious lunch for yourself.

Transportation: For most of us, driving to work has become so obvious and necessary, isn’t it? But it actually leads to so much of costs – maintenance, insurance, parking, gas, etc. In order to save money on transportation, you can check out the options like public transportation, car pool, bikes, etc. Here, you should note that going through the carpool lane will also help you save time!

Coffee: You cannot work or concentrate on your work without sipping into your favorite coffee, isn’t it? And you obviously like Starbucks! Well, if you do the calculations then you will find that you spend around $1000 every year on it. If you wish to save that amount, drink the free coffee that your company offers. You can keep a flavored creamer with yourself which will give a better taste to it. You can even buy a box of tea bags which are quite cheap compared to coffee.

Thus, smart planning and little bit of research will help you save money while you’re in your workplace and help you make the most out of your paycheck.
