BOfA not removing inaccuarte data from credit report

Posted on: 15th May, 2008 09:29 pm
I had filed bankruptcy 2 years ago. I my credit report, I found BOfA listed which is not correct. I have already paid off their credit cards before filing and I disputed it with the BOfA as well as the agencies bit they won't remove it. Is it p[ossible to get this corrected since they don't want to. And if it's done can it raise my score? Also I would like to apply for credit card to help raise my score. Can you suggest a company that can provide me with a card even though I have been through bankruptcy. I do have a mortgage which I didn't list in the bankruptcy.
Hello Toddy,

Welcome to the Community.

If you have paid off the credit card debts then it is the duty of BOFA to report the correct information to the credit reporting agencies. You should dispute your credit report with the credit bureaus. It will have a positive effect on your credit report.

As far as I know American Express, Discover, Citi Cards, Chase are few of the best credit card companies.

Hope this helps.

Hi Toddy,

I applaud anyone who has been able to p/o a credit card...sometimes I think they have become the bane of our society. Do the cards appear on your credit report as closed accounts? Information, as long as it is accurate, can appear on your credit report for up to 7 years UNLESS the reporting creditor agrees to remove it, which B of A evidently has refused to do.

As Jenkin said you can go directly to the credit bureau but if the information is being reported accurately it will stay there.

Try visiting my blog for more info regarding debt management and credit card comparison.

toddy, you didn't indicate whether the bank of america account is showing a zero balance or a balance owed. if it is the former, i agree with lynnette in that the account will appear for the 7 year period with accurate information. if a balance appears and you've paid it in full, i hope you have records indicating that payment in full. you'll need records to contest the reporting and get it corrected.

as for obtaining a new card, i suggest a credit union. rates are typically much more favorable, and credit is generally more available to applicants. that you are a homeowner is to your benefit here. please don't take one of the cards advertised on tv or online that requires you to put funds on deposit - the fees involved in those things are heinous and you'll end up right back where you started.

Hi Toddy,

BofA made the top ten lists for worst creditors so it is no surprise that you are having problems with them.

Have you been discharged from your BK? Also, remember the heaviest weighting on your credit report is the past two years so problems before that are not as important.

Hope this helps. :D

i've never heard anything of the sort about bank of america; but then again, if you try hard enough, you can probably hear all sorts of negative things from all sorts of banks/mortgage lenders/brokers/doctors/lawyers/you name it!

anyone who has ever had a collection account with a creditor is probably willing to talk junk about that company.

Yea you're right George alot of people like to talk trash about people who did not get them the right result regardless of the situation.

I heard it from a credit strategist that studies credit and he generates a list and has a radio show where he talks about credit.

I read it from there myself. We were doing a little research and decided to stay away from them.

Rescently I heared that there is a top ten list of worst creditors that is updated monthly has anyone been able to find it?

Yep...that budd hibbs guys website. At least I think thats his name. I went there once to see if the collection agency I was dealing with was shady. It is and so I decided now would not be a good time to contact them and risk starting the SOL over again.
