can you claim taxes on rent to mortgage holder but you are on deed

my husband and family bought a home aprox 4 years ago with my father our credit was not good so my father put the mortgage in his name, after 6 months we did a quit claim deed to protect us if my father would pass cuz he was in poor health can we claim rent on our taxes that we have paid to him even if we are on the deed
rent payments are not tax deductible in any event carla...the only deductible expenses that are allowed would be the payment of real estate taxes and interest.
