Cosigner for an apartment

Posted on: 14th Nov, 2013 12:40 am
I was a co-signer for a friend's apartment. She left the apartment and still has 2 months of lease left. She haven't even paid the rent for the month of November. Nobody informed me that she left. Can anyone let me know if the leasing company should inform the co-signer that the renter has broken the lease?
The leasing company is not liable for informing you that the tenant left the apartment. It is for the tenant i.e. your friend to inform you that she has left the property. Henceforth, be careful and never cosign for the lease agreement of your friend.

Welcome Tiara,

Yes, it is true that the leasing company has no liability to inform you that the tenant has left the property. As you're the co-signer, they will simply come after you in order to recover the dues.
