We filed bankruptcy and it was discharged 2 years ago. In September 2012 we received a letter from the bank stating they are writing off the debt and we need to take this to our tax accountant as they are turning this over to IRS. As of todays date we have not received a 1099 from the bank. This 2nd mortgage was included in our bankruptcy which was a Chapter 7. full dissolution of debt. What do we do?
Welcome shay,
As tax time is knocking at the door, I will suggest you to get in touch with the bank immediately and ask them to provide you with the 1099 form.

Hi shay,
I agree with what Adonis has said. Apart from this, you can even get in touch with a tax adviser and take his opinion in this matter.
Thanks
