Hello I just bought a new home and i have been hearing about putting a homestead on it. I have no clue what it is or where to go to do it. I was told it is so that no one can take my house.
Hi TC,
Your principal residence will qualify for a homestead exemption. Also, as a homeowner, you must be an individual and not a corporation or other business entity. The homeowner must be using the home as his or her principal residence on January 1 of the tax year. In order to get an homestead exemption, you will have to file an Application for Residential Homestead Exemption with your appraisal district.
