WHY DO WE HAVE TO PAY BACK MEDICAID- HES DEAD!

I know medicaid can recover funds from a deceased estate. Can they recover funds from a payable on death account not in the estate?

hi i am expected to inherit a good amount of money..i was on medicaid for many years as well as my children...i have not been on medicaid assistance in over 10 years...i also am divorced from my childrens father...will the state of CT make me pay all money back to them that they have paid out for my children and i? or will they only make me pay back half and go after my ex for the other half??

As far as I can understand, you won't have to pay off the Medicaid dues from your inheritance.

As far as I know, if the property and the home is in your name solely, then Medicaid won't be able to come after you.

Noone is actually answering WHY they are allowed to do this. Why do we pay taxes if we just have to pay it back. Thats paying twice!!

My mother has received medicaid asistance for 7 years. I have U.S Bonds that are in her name and mine. Will medicaid take those bonds at her death?

My mother suffered neglect while in a nursing home in NY and became injured. Her children iniated a lawsuit on her behalf. She has since passed away and now the lawsuit is being settled. Medicaid and Medicare want repayment. Are they entitled to any of the settlement.
