Where do I start from?

My father, who was in a family business, was fired by his older brother. When that happened, I lost my health insurance. After that I had incurred some medical debt that has gone into collections. From what I can gather, it is about $800-$1500 of medical debt possibly a bit more. Apart from that, I have only defaulted on one credit card previously which has now been paid off in full. I cannot pay off the debt all at once because I am a student and have my living expenses. I have heard that there are ways to dispute collections, especially medical related. However, I have no idea of where to start. Can anyone help?
If your debt accounts are still with the original creditor, then you should contact them and negotiate with them in order to lower the amount so that you can pay off the debts. I don't think the creditor will forgive the debt in full.

Hi Calvin Klein!

Welcome to forums!

If you really own the debt, then there is hardly any point in disputing the accounts. You should take steps in order to pay off the debt. If you don't owe the debt, then you can send a dispute letter to the credit bureaus who can look into the matter and if possible remove the notifications.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

You should talk with the company that was handling your insurance earlier. There are terms in policies which may find you a suitable option to carry on further.
