If my mom has to go into a nursing home and she owns her own homeand has never had a mortgage on the house, and I am to inherit the home in her passing, can this house be taken by medicad? Is there anything I can do to avoid this or how does this work? For the past year I have living up there for four days a week helping her, with shopping, taking her to Dr.'s appointments and anything else that she needs done. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Generally, home is not repossessed to pay the Medicaid expenses. The court actually gives the verdict on how to pay the expenses.
For this you may consult a Medicaid expert and find out from him or her about the possible ways by which due medicaid expenses can be paid. Basically, a Medicaid lien can be placed on the house since your mother is a Medicaid recipient in order to recover the health care costs before the property can be transferred into your name.
