Have you ever you a prepaid legal service to file bankruptcy? Such s Hyatt Legal Plans? What was it like?
hi tawanastegall,
frankly speaking, i haven't heard of prepaid services for filing bankruptcy. in my opinion it is always better to contact a bankruptcy attorney and discuss your case with him/her. as far as hyatt legal plans is concerned, it's a voluntary legal group which helps people with professional legal help. are you dealing with that company? do share your experience with the community.
thanks

Well, Hyatt Legal Plans is a group and it refers you to attorney's that participate in the prepaid legal services. So it refers you to a bankruptcy attorney in your area where you are located.
It is through my job, I pay for it on a monthly basis and it said that bankruptcy is covered, Chapter 7 and 13. I was just wondering about what are the attorney fees involved in bankruptcy so I can see what attorney fees are covered.
I was wondering if anyone ever used them so I can see how well the services work going through the Hyatt Legal Plans.

Well, the fees may vary from attorney to attorney. As far as I know, at first they may give you a free consultation but after that you would have to hire them for legal representation.
Usually if they say it's covered, it will pay all your attorney fees and you just have to pay filing fees, court costs, etc. Hyatt should be able to confirm if you call them.
The fees woould probably fall under the 25% membership discount policy,
But you have to remember these days the cost of lawyers and attorney's 25% savings is alot...

i think fees would be far down the list of the questions i would have. first of all might be this: is the attorney well-versed in bankruptcy law, and is the attorney competent?
I have been a court reporter for 25 years. In my experience Prepaid Legal attorneys are of the most competent of any attorney. I do know that PPL has absolutely EVERY attorney you would ever need, and you have on in every state. Talk about well-versed. No better one out there. I recently became a member and I can't believe how often I pick up the phone just to ask questions. Has saved me literally thousand of dollars.
cherie, that couldn't have been more of a promotional post if it had tried. obviously, as a member (and doesn't that mean that you sell subscriptions, also?), you have a vested interest in touting the service. this is shameless.
I agree with you George. Cherie's post seems to be a promotional one. I guess, Cherie doesn't know the forum rules and guidelines which states that promotional postings are not allowed in the forum.

A member is one who receives the service and what not. an associates are the ones that sell it. I am a PPL associate now but when i was only a member i used it a lot and it does work well i haven't had my insurance rates go up at all and the attorneys they get are good. plus they do identity theft protection now and all sorts of stuff which is good to I'm not trying to promote anything i say the thread and want to say what i thought.
but if Cherrie is trying to promote she should know that it is against PPL policy to post any solicitations without corporate approval.

not to mention that it violates the guidelines that are clearly expressed on this website.
If you were to use prepaid legal for bankruptcy you can you have the ability to speak with any kind of attorney for free. The lawyer will represent you for free or atleast a 25% discount. If you are sued or audited your lawyer for that is free up to 75 hours and it'll go up from there after time. The company has been around and publicly traded for 36 years so its a strong company.
on a side note i am not trying to sell you guys anything im just telling you some of the stuff i know. i hope that answers the question

They only use top rated attorneys that specialize in that field. mostly AV rated (aka the smart ones)
you make it seem like it's an IQ test. that must be an awfully small group!
I have had the money deducted from my payroll check for the last year (Hyatt Legal Plan) and honestly wasn't sure if I should keep it on. My husband and I have hit bottom financially and I was considering bankruptcy. I called and the rep I spoke to said all legal fees would be billed to them. It is the court costs and filling fees that would have to be taken care of. Any insight is greatly appreciated. I never thought it would get to this point...
