Me and my husband filed chapter 7 in 2008. We were discharged of our mortgage debt in Oct 2008 and never reconfirmed the loan. We mailed the keys back to the bank in July 2009 and called the bank to let them know to foreclose on the property that we didn't want it we were moving out of state. The home is still under our names and it hasn't foreclosed..the city is wanting to have property taxes paid. Are we still responsible since we have not lived their and the bank has had the keys for almost a year now?
As the property is still in your name, the city has the rights to charge you for the property taxes. You may inform them that you've surrendered the property to the lender after your bankruptcy was discharged. May be, they won't charge you the taxes.
