I thought I posted this earlier. I don't see it anywhere so I am going to post it again.
My spouse and I bought a home a few months ago. Been married for 5 years and we have been filing our tax's as single (I claim my son).
Does anyone know that if we file married jointly for 2010 and given the fact that we purchased our first home in 2010 (neither of us has ever owned a home before) should be be getting a refund for 2010?
We are new to this and we do not know how to go about filing our tax's. We don't know if we should file: married or married jointly. We want to make sure we file correctly so that we can get the most refund possible.[/b]

Hi valielockhart,
If both of you are first time homeowners, then you will be able to claim the tax refunds when you file your taxes in 2010. You can file jointly in order to get the tax refunds. You should contact a tax adviser and he will guide you further in this matter.
