Changing my name on a quit claim deed

Posted on: 01st Dec, 2009 12:12 pm
My husband and I are divorced as of 11/19.
He will be quit claiming the house over to me in my married name. How do I get it put in my maiden name. I live in CA
Hi sl,

You can ask you ex-husband to quitclaim the property in your maiden name. Or else, once the property gets transferred to you in your married name, you can sign a quit claim deed and transfer it in your maiden name. In this case, you'll have to write your married name as the grantor of the property whereas your maiden name as the grantee to the property.

So the way I understand you is. He does a quit claim to me in my married name and then I do a quit claim from my married name to my maiden name.
Thanks, Sharon

you can file a change of name affidavit in the land records that will suffice. however, you want the name on the quit claim deed to be that which is on the land records at the same time.
