We recently refinanced with Acclaimed Financial. Our original mortgage was brokered by them in Oct, 2007; so when rates dropped, I contacted them to refi. First time, all went well. They advertise $395 fee plus closing costs; they are paid, otherwise, by the lender.
This time, when we got ready to close, there was a $675 "Bank Underwriting Fee" that was not disclosed on the GFE. We debated not closing, then debated rescinding the contract, but ultimately let it go through. They refused to compromise, so I reported them to the NC Attorney General, the NC Banking Commission, the SC BBB, and I contested the original $395 charge billed to my credit card. I may never see the $675, but this is just one more attempt to make certain that their deceptive practices cost them way more than $675.

I understand your situation. You did the right thing by complaining about their deceptive practices to the NC Attorney General, the NC Banking Commission and the SC BBB. In order to stop their deceptive practices, it is important to take stern actions against them.
