Has anybody had any interaction with American Interbanc Mortgage LLC in Irvine Ca? I am shopping rates currently and they appear to have a very competitive program for my area (Washington State)

[reposting from my yelp review of this business]

I rarely write reviews unless I'm mind-blown by my experience or had had a very cra**y time. Usually it's the latter, hence it's saying A LOT if I'm taking my time to write American Interbanc Mortgage a glowing review.

I dealt with Matt Dyer at AIB for closing on a short-sale property. He was superb. Extremely professional, very prompt, and super organized -- the last one being very important for mortgage brokers. I've taken quotes from various morgage officers over the years and dealt with 3 in the past for loans/refinances - Matt has by far been the best. Even once I was locked-into working with him, he was very organized, remembering the documents I sent him and only asking for what was absolutely necessary (that too in a super organized manner). He's approachable by all modern means of communications (even some times in his off-time) and realizes the importance of good customer service. He was prompt to return my phone calls and emails and helped me close in record time. In short, Matt gets customer service. He understands how to do business in this new online era.

AIB not only had one of the most competitive quotes when I was shopping around, Matt there also made the process so effortless. Since I had a short-sale, which adds another layer of complexity, I ran into certain challenges during the closing process (b/c of certain requirements that we had to meet for the lender) and Matt helped me wade through the process effortless by coming up with prompt workarounds.

I highly recommend AIB and more importantly Matt Dyer, who's superb customer service will go long in helping whichever employer he works for.

STAY AWAY from this company. I cannot even express the incompetence and ignorance we encountered while securing a mortgage from them. My husband chose them because they had an excellent interest rate, but what a mistake! We dealt with Eric Hanko, who up until the week of our settlement seemed to be on top of things. Then, a few days before closing, it all fell apart. We were set to close on a Thurs, and on the Friday before my husband emailed Eric to make sure we had provided all necessary documents. Mr Hanko got back to us on TUESDAY, four days later, to give us a list of no less than 13 items he wanted, most of which we had no idea were needed until that moment. My husband frantically got all the items into Eric's email by first thing Wed morning. Mr Hanko then proceeded to need a few MORE documents, which my husband quickly provided. After reassuring us several times that the settlement would occur on time and that we were fine, Eric emailed us, our realtor, and the title agency at 8:30pm the night before settlement to say that "realistically, we would be closing on FRIDAY, b/c the funder needed to review the package." This was something that should have been mentioned BEFORE and we had no idea why he would tell us all was good to go just hours earlier. We were in a position where we were selling our home the same day, so essentially we'd be homeless if we didn't settle on Thurs.
We spent all day Thurs with our realtor trying to make settlement happen. Eric asked for MORE unexpected documents, and when he had them he simply told us that our package was ready but the funder was dealing with 'higher priority' mortages. She had it on her desk but wouldn't be getting to it soon. !?! We had MISSED our settlement at that point, wouldn't that be considered high priority? Finally as the day went on we accepted that we would have to settle on Friday-- only to get an email from Mr. Hanko saying that "our best case scenario was closing on MONDAY." There was no apology included or any kind of responsiblity taken. (We wound up paying daily rent to move into our new house early, money that we shouldn't have had to pay if American Interbanc had done it's job.)
To make matters worse, on Monday we had to sit at settlement for an extra 90 minutes waiting for American Interbanc to clear MORE documents they needed last minute.

All of this would have been an easier pill to swallow if they had had some sort of decent customer service. Mr Hanko was cold and unconcerned about the whole situation, and beyond unhelpful. He rarely returned calls, only emails. When asked by my husband to speak to his supervisor, he claimed the 'funder' Mary was the head of the branch, and there was no one else. He refused to put her on the phone, and when my husband called her directly she would not return his messages (which were polite and pleading for some sort of explanation and resolution.)

This company was HORRIBLE to deal with, and had our situation been different, if we been moving a long distance away, it would have really been an extremely costly and inconvenient problem.

Don't use this company, the interest rate is NOT worth it!!
