I received a phone call from a man with a heavy accent saying I am being sued by Fast Cash for money fraud and all sorts of things. I told him I don't have an outstanding balance. He said that wasn't the case and I need to pay them 800 to stop the case. He won't give me the number to fast cash and I can't find it as I used them years ago. Does anyone have this number? Is this a scam?
princess i'm sorry you asked that last question, because i would think you'd be absolutely certain that it's a scam.
if you bow to this fool and pay what's being asked of you, you'll be quite sorry, i'm sure.
if there's a debt owed, there must be evidence of that debt. if the knucklehead calls again, put him on notice that you'll not speak with him unless and until he provides you with specific documentation that reflects the so-called debt you have.
also, review the ftc website (ftc.gov) to see what protections you have as a consumer against false claims and overzealous creditors/collectors. you can file a complaint online if you feel your rights have been trampled upon.
presumably, you have the phone number from which this heavily accented man called. don't lose that number - it will help if you need to take action to defend yourself.
