Should it be safe enough to use credit cards online?

Posted on: 12th May, 2008 12:53 am
I was just wondering as to how safe is it to use credit cards on the net. So many people say there are hackers who'll use programs to get my card information, but the bank who sent me the offer said I don't need to bother. As they said it's quite safe and secure enough to protect my card info.

Is it risky going for such offers? Pls advise
Hi Adrien,

Welcome to the forum.

I think using credit cards online is not safe. Why would anyone give away the credit card detail to some unknown people online? This is very much scam prone. So I think it is better not to use credit cards online.

Best of luck,
Larry

Welcome Adrien.

Even a few years ago there was also a risk of Identity Theft if you use a but now it is much more secured and safe. You can use your credit cards online. It is comparatively easier and safer.

Let me know if you have any further queries

Depends on who you talk to. However, make sure if you do that you are entering your credit card on a secure site. When you go to make a transaciton a pad-lock icon should show up to let you know that you are entering your credit card information on a secure site. This ensures that your information cannot be seen by hackers.

I personally have a paypal account that I use for online transactions, that way you have the extra protection. I only use my credit cards for the sites that have the verisign logo on it, I have never had a problem, knock on wood.

Paypal is awesome, you can use it to cash out here too and get your money with in a day or two.

Alot of vendors that use the online payments will accept paypal. I have a mastercard with my paypal account and use it to withdraw money at atm machines and for online purchases. It is safe and handy to use.

Hi banker,

I think you're right. Off-topic discussions can be done in the pub forum. Otherwise the poster or any other person seeking information will simply be confused with such unrelated posts.

Jbarto-> pls have a look at our forum guidelines on off-topic discussion at http://www.mortgagefit.com/terms-services.html and avoid making such posts except in Pub forum.

It should be but you should be careful about what websites you are transacting with as well. Before providing your credit card information, make sure that the website has the padlock icon on the upper left corner. You should be able to click on this padlock which then displays the security details if the website. Moreover, the websites browser address should start with instead of . This means that the website has a SSL certificate which encrypts all information that pass through it. Another tip is to make sure that all your computers security features and antivirus software are turned on.
