authorized user on card

Posted on: 27th Apr, 2007 04:15 pm
I some time back read somewhere that if anyone willingly adds me to his cc as being an authorized user then it can help raise my score, is it kind of true?
Hi Gosbell,

It can help you in improving your score but the person adding you to his/her card as authorized user should have good payment history.

I myself knew one who had her daughter named as authorized user on her store card and as mom had that card for quite some time and had timely payment history, it helped daughter's scores to improve.

Hi Gosbell,

Welcome to Mortgagefit forum.

Being an authorized user on a card can help improve your score as the amount of available credit increases and the ratio of debt versus available credit decreases. But being an authorized user will not help to improve your score if the card company does not report the authorized user to credit bureaus.

Instead of improving your credit score it can have bad affect also if the person who made you authorized user on his card does not keep his payments regular. Such late payments/charge offs will then appear on your report also.
