If a debt in collection gets transferred to a new collector will that date be the one from which it will take another 7 years to be removed?
Hi Kirsten,
The total no. of years for a collection to be removed from the credit report is 7 years. A collection agency just can sell your account back and forth.

Hi,
7 years counts from the original date when the item went for collection for the first time. If the original date of collection with the first company was 1/2006 then it will come off on 1/2013 plus 180 days.

I agree that 7 years is the total time for the collection to come off. If one collection agency buys it from the other then it is not going to get fresh 7 years time.
