Hi to all i took one of the non-profit home buying seminars and the information they provided was so useful. For instance my credit was not that great i was unemployed for a year and being a college student and unexperienced with credit cards lets just say it was'nt pretty. Now that i'm a mature adult i realize how important credit is and the many better opportunites you can get with a higher score. In taking this class they gave us some outline letters to write to credit bureaus to file a complaint.
They were great letters many of the errors were taken off and i even gave a summary detail as to why my payments where not made on time. The bad thing is that these companies use the law to put things into your credit report when you have the legal right to dispute and also provide a reason as to why you did not provide payment on time. Did you guys also know that if a credit bureau does not provide you with an answer in 30 days by law they have to reverse the debt to zero or pay you $1000 dollars. In a better light to my story my score has greatly improved right now it is 650 and getting better.

Thats great Aladysiren. 650 is a good score now. Well done.
Yes I have also heard about this law by which the bureaus are required to reply or pay you fine.

Yes there is a Fair Credit Reporting Act rule that requires bureaus to reply in 30 days or remove the entry from your report. But many people are not aware of this law and thus suffer unnecessarily when should be disputing any and all wrong entries in their report.
And one more thing, how someone can attend such non-profit home buying seminars? Sorry but I am just now informed enough. If you could tell something about it...

No you cannot be charged for that at all you have the right
Well colin the seminar classes introduced us to mortgage buying, home inspection, realestate agents tips, choosing a relestate lawyer, broker and so many other topics that arises when buying a home. Upon completing I received a certificate of proof that i completed 5 modules of the homebuyers club at the NHS homeownership Center. You can find more info to see if it is available in your area at www.nw.org
Kind of you for sharing this useful information. I was not aware of what is covered in such seminars but it seems they are really useful.
Thanks again
Colin

Debt getting reversed to zero if the bureau doesn't respond - that's great. A few of my friends have got into such traps and couldn't just convince their creditors to remove the debt from credit reports. They've contacted credit repair agencies to improve their credit and believe me it's all crap. Most of such companies will take money from you and in return they"ll do nothing for you to repair your credit. I believe if we have the way to educate ourselves on something, the best option would be to do it ourself. And the home buying seminars that you speak of, yes they are good as I've heard but haven't attended any, just renting right at the moment but certainly homeownership is something that I aspire for.
