turned down for a loan

Posted on: 18th Apr, 2007 05:04 pm
I got turned down few months back while apllied for a loan as there were too many inquiries on my cr, how can I remove the inquiries from my report and how long will they stay and will it be possible to block any further inquiries from being made? some inquiries I found are being made for the credit cards I have and they are putting the inquiries almost on a monthly basis, can these be stopped and why they be checking so often?
Hi Leonard,

Welcome to Mortgagefit discussion board.

Credit inquiries will stay on your credit report for two years. If however you see any inquiry which is older than two years than you can dispute if with the credit bureaus to have it removed from your CR.

Thanks

Hi Leonard,

If you see any inquiries for which you did not authorize any creditor then write to them who ran the inquiry. You need to clearly state that they were not authorized run a check on your report and should it should be removed. If the inquiry was done for a valid reason then they will provide you with the proof that you allowed it.

Blocking credit inquiries might not be possible if you are going to apply for loans, the creditor has to run a check to see your financial standing. And even if it could be possible then it will constrain prospective creditors from accessing your report. But you should contact the bureaus to know if it would be possible to stop any particular creditor from accessing your records.

The inquiries you see made by your present creditors are regarded as soft inquiries and they will not lower your score. Only you are able to see the soft inquiries and they have no impact on your credit score. Present creditors normally do make checks to see how you are managing your credit and if any potential problems have started.

"how can I remove the inquiries from my report"
Some inquiries might be the promotional inquiries and you can stop them.

You will have to visit the web site of three bureaus and tell them that you want to opt out from getting promotional offers. After you tell them the bureaus will stop selling your information to firms which would like to offer you credit. Thus, such firms will stop making inquiries to get you pre-approved for getting credit from them.

But these kinds of inquiries do not affect score and fall under the category of soft inquiries.

Leonard,

You need to contact the concerned creditor or the credit bureau and request either of them to remove the inquiries from your report.

However, if you are shopping for a home loan, inquiries may affect your score as discussed in http://www.mortgagefit.com/predeal/about6906.html .

From a different prospective...

I've never declined someone for a loan solely because of the number of credit inquiries. Perhaps you are referring to the credit score at the time which you may believe was influenced downward by numerous inquiries. However, there must have been other credit issues or a severe lack of credit depth for inquiries alone to have dropped your score.

You may also want to share with the board the type of loan you were applying for and ask for other suggestions to qualify for a home loan.
