ok I have found that I had not paid for a c.card back in 2003 which I intend to pay but the problem now is that it shows up twice on my report
one being the true c. card company and the other being a collection collector both show up only on transunion.
the card company has the right acct. # but Im guessing the collection agency has there on acct. # but I called and found it was the card.
so how can the same card be reported twice on teh report.
and do I pay the first national bank or the collection agency
thanks

"Ok I been doing some checking and ran across this and was wondering if it was true.
(If you do pay the collection agency, you can contact the original creditor and tell them the debt was "settled" and they need to update your account to reflect this. Technically, they are obligated to do this, as this is the truth. For the creditor to NOT do this is a violation of the FCRA)"
I was just wondering if this was ever confirmed? Would they really have to change a status from something like "Charge Off" to "Settled"?

If the OC sold the debt, they don't have to update the account. They can continue to report as a charge-off, since that's what it was. But it seems as though clayedwards got lucky in this situation, which means it's worth following up with the OC to see what happens.
Thanks!
