I applied for internet service couple of years ago but cancelled it within few days. But I have received a noticed stating that I have accounts which are past due. They say they have no record of the cancellation of the internet connection. Now I need to know as to how this will affect my scores. How will the SOL work in this regard? Will it be helpful if I send a DV letter?
Hi Sherlin,
If a negative item is listed in your credit report, then it will have a negative impact in your credit report. It will lower your scores by quite a few points. Depending upon your state, the SOL period for such debts may vary. Once the SOL period is over, the creditor cannot take legal actions against you but it will remain mentioned in your credit report.
Thanks,
Jerry

Hi Sherlin,
Any negative item will remain mentioned in your credit report for 7 days. Before 7 years you won't be able to remove this from your credit report. DV letters are sent to collection agencies. You cannot send a DV letter to your original creditor.
