My credit reports from all the 3 bureaus mention something of AFNI. I had disputed it. Well, after few weeks I received a letter form AFNI saying the investigation is completed and that this account will be closed. It also mentioned that no further collection activity will take place. But surprisingly, two days back, I got back my disputes from Transunion and Equifax and they state that AFNI account has been verified as mine. It also mentioned that it will stay on my record. When I called up AFNI, they said that they do not know anything about this account and can't find any record of it in their system. They also stated they are not sure why it is reporting as verified and they can not do anything about it. When I called Equifax and they said call AFNI. What should I do now?
If you have the required letter mentioning the fact that it will be removed from your credit report, then the credit bureau should remove it. If you wish you can hire a consumer law attorney and check out what steps you should take in this regard.
Hi JPS,
Have you showed the letter, that you received from AFNI, mentioning that the account will be closed, to the credit bureaus? If not, then I will suggest you to contact the credit bureaus and show them the letter and try to get rid of the accounts.
Thanks
