Credit Card After Bankruptcy

Posted on: 06th Oct, 2010 10:58 am
I filed Chapter 7 one year ago and my case has been discharged. I now have a secured credit card, for which I contributed only $250. I would like to apply, and hopefully, get approved for an unsecured credit card. Can anyone tell me if they've been in my position and now have an unsecured card and which one?
Hi Ellen!

Welcome to forums!

I haven't been in your position but what I can say is that if you have been making regular payments toward your secured credit card, then you will be able to qualify for an unsecured credit card. You should contact the local banks and apply for the same.

Feel free to ask if you've further queries.

How long have you had your secured card? Most secured cards will allow you to convert to an unsecured credit card after a year or so of on-time payments. You may want to check with your current credit issuer first before applying elsewhere.

If you're interested in a different credit card provider, both Orchard Bank and First Premier are the most popular credit issuers for those with bad/poor credit. Compare some of their cards online, but beware - they do come with higher fees and interest rates as they are targeting "riskier" credit users.
