Car loan

I had a car loan several years back which has been paid off. However, I had four late payments in 2006 right before I got rid of the car. I sent a goodwill letter asking for the late payments to be removed so the account would move to positive on my CRs. I received a letter back saying they couldn't find the account that I was trying to dispute and asking for more information from me. I figure I have a couple of options here. 1. I can furnish them the information requested and still hope for the goodwill letter to work to get those late payments off. 2. I can dispute the account in its entirety to try to get it removed since they don't have information on it. I don't want to remove a mostly positive account if those late payments don't really hurt my score anymore.
Hi Hanna,

Rather than furnishing the information, I will suggest you to dispute the item in entirety. If they cannot validate the debt, then it will be easier for you to remove the negative item from your credit report. Late payments will definitely hurt your credit score. It is better to get them removed. It will be easier for you to qualify for a loan.

Take care

Hi Hanna,

Sara is right. It will always be a good option to dispute the item in entirety. If they cannot verify the account or provide you the required details, you can ask them to remove it from your credit report.

Thanks
