I have been into repairing my credit for quite sometime now!! In the meanwhile, I had pulled my husband's credit so that we can have a look at it and accordingly plan for our home purchase in the coming few months. On his credit reports it shows some of the open accounts being paid late and they were. At this point do we try dispute it with the CRA's or do send out a goodwill letter to the OC? Any advice would be appreciated.
As the debts were owed by your husband, I will suggest your husband to first validate the debt by contacting the collection agency. If the CA validates the debt, then your husband can set up a payment plan and pay off the debt. He can then request for a pay for delete so that the CA removes it from your credit report.
Hi Jenna,
I agree with what Niicss has said. But you should also check out whether or not the SOL period for the debts is over in your state. If the SOL period for the debt is over, then your husband can avoid paying off the debt. The creditor/CA won't be able to take any legal actions against your husband.
Thanks

The OP said nothing about the debt being handled by a collection agency, so I think we can assume it's still in the hands of the original creditor. If that's the case, and you're still a current customer, writing a goodwill letter and requesting removal of the lates is definitely worth a try.
Keep it simple and be sure to tout how loyal a customer you are and that these late pays were just an oversight. Who knows, you may get lucky!
