My girlfriend has a collection on her account from ATT. I want to pay it as soon as we can. Does it really make a difference in how soon we pay it though? Also what are the chances that this could be deleted? From what I'm reading it seems like getting collections deleted isn't all that hard. We want to buy a house and don’t want the collection to hurt our chances.
Hi Ravin,
The sooner you pay the better it will be for you. Once you pay off the debts, it will get reflected in your credit report and will help you in increasing your credit scores. As far as deletion of the account is concerned, you should contact the creditor/CA and negotiate with them for deletion. You can even go for pay for delete in order to remove the accounts from your credit report.
Thanks,
Jerry

I completely agree with Jerry. The sooner you pay it, the better will it be for your credit. Otherwise, the credit score is going to lower all the more. As for the account deletion, no account can get deleted as such. You can however, request the collection agency to remove the negative listings with regards to this account. If they are going to agree to this, depends completely on them.
