Improve credit a little

Posted on: 03rd Jul, 2012 02:39 am
I reviewed my credit reports and realized that some of the accounts did not report included in bankruptcy. I had filed bankruptcy in 2010. I disputed them because I hoped that it would improve my credit a little as I am working on buying a home. Was this the right thing to do? Or am I reaching too far?
Hi Corvi,

There is no harm in disputing the items in your credit report. The creditor should always report the correct status of the account to the credit bureaus.

Thanks,

Jerry

You can dispute to make sure the accounts are coded correctly on your credit report.

If you do not get the credit report corrected, when you apply for the mortgage you provide a copy of the list of accounts included in the BK, so, does not matter if correctly coded on the credit report or not.

Mostly, you need to wait the required time to apply for a mortgage after the BK.

If you dispute, the accounts may be coded "IN DISPUTE". Make sure that annotation is removed from all accounts by the time you apply for the mortgage. Accounts "IN DISPUTE" may cause you more problems in the mortgage application process than accounts not included in the BK.
