Late payments due to moratorium

Posted on: 27th Jun, 2009 04:53 pm
As part of a Loan Modification process, Wells Fargo put me on a five-month "moratorium" last January, and they told me NOT to pay anything until the end of the moratorium. Now that the morattorium is over, they have offered me a six-month "forbearance" which I may want to decline. If I do decline, I would pay my account up to date, and Wells told me that would result in a "Account current-up to date" on my Credit History. However, they also said that the 5 months during the moratorium would continue to show as "late payments". Since Wells told me not to make those payments, shouldn't those "late" payments be erased when I pay up to date? Is there anything that I can do about this? How would four or five "late" mortgage payments affect my credit score?

Sam K
Hi samkri,

Though Wells Fargo has asked you not to pay for that 5 months period, it can definitely report it as late payments on your credit report. As you'll be paying your debts to make your account up to date, you can try to negotiate with Wells and check out if they can agree to mark it as "Account current-up to date".

I think it is your obligation to pay for that because you and that owner were the one who settles especially the payments.

Hi Jamie

If you've taken the loan, it's your obligation to pay off the mortgage dues. The lender has all the right to report your payments as late if you do not make payments on the right time.

Thanks.
