I have a Potentially Negative Closed on my report that I know is not mine
but when I call the collection agency they need the acct. # or my full s.s. #
and I dont know a acct. # and really dont want to give my full s.s. number
snice Iv had problems with someone else's credit who happens to have the same name as me and just happens to live in the same dang town and his bad credit has been put on my report in the past.
do ya'll think it wise not to give my s.s.
thanks
well, clay, it seems that without your social security number, they'll be unable to assist you. i'd say that's the only way in which you'll be able to get that negative report taken off by that agency.

you can, however, also contact the credit agency or agencies that are reporting the collection account and have them take action. you will then have to supply your social security number, of course, which they will, in turn, provide to the collection agency in order to verify that the debt does or does not belong to you. is it a catch 22? maybe, but if you really want it resolved you have to provide someone with your social security number.

you are right about the catch 22 lol.
I dont trust collection agency's very much lol.
but on another note if I had anything that was removed from my report years back can it be brought back by a collection agency that baught it
this is the only thing that I can think would make it mine as I started using one bank in 2004 when I found out about the other person's credit going on mine and this collection agency show's the date open in 2007 which is not poss. snice all Iv used snice 2004 is my bank.
thanks again

truly the only way you can find out is to go ahead and provide your ss number, clay. i know it's a difficult thing to have two people in the same locale with the same name - not personal happenstance, but i've known several people who've gone through that.

whether you trust them or not, they simply cannot enforce a debt against you if it isn't yours.
